May Bellabox - Beauty SOS!

After receiving my Bellabox in March, I unsubscribed because I was unsatisfied with the content. However I couldn't pass up the opportunity of receiving my 'first' Bellabox for $10 and knowing there were so many goodies packed in this month's box. I am so guilty of making impulse or irrational decisions when there's a good deal right in front of me. Besides reading other people's posts, I knew this month was a good box since (1) the box was heavy, and (2) the lid wouldn't close!

May's theme was Beauty SOS - items you should always have in case of emergency :P

Tutorial: How to create galaxy nails

Some of you requested a tutorial on how to create galaxy nails and I was planning to post a tutorial up anyways so here it is! It's super easy to create with the help of a makeup sponge and glitter top coat!

What you need:

  • Makeup sponge
  • Nail polish in the shades:
    • Black
    • Steel blue, or similar (OPI - I have a herring problem)
    • Shimmery blue (Sportsgirl - Cobalt)
    • Shimmery purple (Nicole by OPI - Prized Possession Purple)
  • Clear glitter top coat (China Glaze - Fairy Dust; Sportsgirl - Fruit Salad)

You don't have to follow exactly what I have done. The galaxy is constantly changing so it's all about getting creative!

So lets get started :)

NOTD: Galaxy Nails

Hey lovelies, how are you all?
Lately I've been quite bored of only painting my nails with one shade and thought I haven't attempted any nail art in a while. While I was procrastinating I decided to make an attempt at galaxy nails. It's no where near as good as nail gurus but I am quite satisfied with the results.

My photos don't do any justice to how pretty they look in person as it doesn't capture the holographic glitters that looking like twinkling stars in the light. To create this look, I used the following polishes:

May 2013 - Lust Have It

Hey lovelies! Hope you're having a wonderful start to the weekend despite the dreary weather if you're in Sydney. Today I finally had time to pick up my LHI from the post office, which arrived on Tuesday. Before receiving my box I was quite anxious as to which box I would be receiving as this month seemed quite meh...

So lets get started!

Etude House - Dear My Blooming Lips

I've been meaning to review this product for a LONG time now but I never came around to it. You might not remember but I mentioned I made a second Koreadepart haul in my Magic Pole Mascara post and one of the items I bought included Etude House's Dear My Blooming Lips. When I received it I actually realised I ordered the wrong item and was supposed to order one of their Dear My Jelly Lips. I don't remember looking at the name when I bought it so I was deceived by their similar packaging! My fault though.

As I mentioned, I purchased this from Koreadepart for $8.55 not including shipping. I chose the shade OR211, which isn't one of the main or original colours from their range but there are over 24 shades available! You can also purchase this on Ebay for around $10-11 including shipping or any other retailers that stock Etude House.

NOTD: OPI - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

I haven't abandoned my blog just yet! It's been a week since I've blogged properly but I admit I've been feeling super sluggish and stressed lately because of (1) my retarded sleeping patterns: sleeping at 5am and waking up at 2.30pm (2) I'm behind on my uni work so I'm barely passing my tests; and (3) I just handed in my 2,500 word taxation essay and it drove me literally crazy. Kudos to those who do taxes for a living; I don't know how you do it...

In the past week I've also received my new specs, monkey onsie which I purchased from Ebay, and my Canon 40mm f/2.8 STM Pancake Lens which I've been excited about.

Now enough of my ramblings!

For the past week I haven't had time or wasn't bothered to even paint my nails, which is a first. Last night I decided to dig through my collection and picked out one of my OPI polishes that I don't think I have used before. If you haven't seen my instagram, the polish I picked out was OPI - On Her Majesty's Secret Service from their Skyfall collection and it's absolutely gorgeous!

Depending on the angle from which you're looking at, and how many coats you apply, the colour of this polish will look different. The base colour is sort of a sheer grey with blue undertones from what I remember when I applied the first coat. After the second coat, my nails appeared more bluish green. This is because the polish is packed with tonnes of various shades micro glitter. From what I can see, there are traces of blue, gold, green, purple and even pink!

As expected from OPI, the brush is excellent and the formula went on smoothly! The photos don't do any justice as to how pretty the polish looks in person. It's a perfect shade during Autumn / Winter but with a bit of glam.

What's your favourite shade to wear during the colder seasons?

Hopefully for the next three weeks I can post more regularly until my final exams kick in and before I head off to LA + Vancouver! Have a lovely week ladies!

Being the stingy & cheap person I am, I love it when I come across websites selling products at dirt cheap prices. We all know that manufacturing a product would only cost a couple of dollars but the reason why companies tend to retail their products at a ridiculous price is due to research and development costs, marketing costs, etc...

When I came across I was astounded by the prices at which the products were sold at. I am certain the most popular website people most often visit for cheap deals is Ebay but sometimes Ebay doesn't cut it. While browsing Aliexpress, I found quite a number of products that are cheaper than those listed on Ebay even if it was by a measly dollar or two. There were some fishy products that really caught my attention though e.g. Clarisonic Mia 2 for $35? Or maybe the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette for $8?

I should point out that Aliexpress is owned by Alibaba and the majority, if not all, the suppliers are based in Hong Kong and China. We all know China is most famous for their counterfeit and replicas. Obviously you would not purchase beauty products before certifying they are genuine and safe; checking feedback and reputation is important! Anyways, here is my conversation with one of the suppliers of the Naked palette:

Closely examining the pictures, it's hard to tell whether the product is fake or not. However there has been positive feedback though it may only be "excellent" or something. Would you purchase a Clarisonic dupe for about one-third of the retail price, though unsure about the quality?

Aside from beauty and make up products, I was really tempted to purchase wall decals (a world map decal being sold for $90 here but can be bought for $9 here) and some phone covers since I am always bored of using the same one.

Wall decal on my wardrobe!
There are a number of bad reviews around the web about Aliexpress / Alibaba being a scam and fraud but then there are also a number of people with good experiences with Aliexpress. Alibaba is also responsible for Taobao, which is a very legitimate website - also known as China's version of Ebay. I am so hesitant about whether or not I should make an order since I have great urges of wanting to buy something! What would you do if you were in my position?

Have you made any purchases from Aliexpress before?
Would you make a purchase in the future?

May Her Fashion Box - Classic

Another month has passed meaning another month of beauty / fashion boxes in the mail! The first box to arrive this month is Her Fashion Box and I must say it is such an improvement from last month. It felt more like a fashion box instead of the lame fake tan and razor.

As a thank you present for completing their feedback survey, Her Fashion Box included a bracelet in my box! I think that's how I received the Redken argan oil last month.

Now here are the goodies I received this month (if you haven't seen my instagram!):

TAG: The 7 Deadly Beauty Sins

This morning I woke up in bed, read twitter and was surprised to find out Tshering tagged me in her post! Thank you Tshering for tagging me; I haven't done any tags in a while so this will be fun! :)

1. GREED: What is your most expensive beauty item?
That would have to be my Bobbi Brown creamy concealer kit and bb cream, both for $60 each. Both amazing products but I absolutely hate the mark up price in Australia - ridiculous!!!

2. WRATH: Which beauty item do you have a love/hate relationship with?
I think that would be liquid eyeliner. I'm an impatient person so I hate waiting for the formula to dry even if it's for a few seconds. Also on some days when I draw my eyeliner on it looks perfect but on a different day it takes me FOREVER because of silly mistakes and my eyelid decides to be fat for the day.

3. GLUTTONY: What brand makes up the biggest chunk of your make up collection?
There's no particular brand since I have bits and pieces of different brands. However after my MUA haul, I think they comprise of the biggest chunk of my collection so far.

4. SLOTH: What product do you neglect to use due to laziness?
Hah, too many... But for make up that would be eyeshadow. And yet I have so many...

5. PRIDE: Which beauty product gives you the most confidence?
It's a toss between eyeliner and mascara but if I had to pick one, I think I would go for eyeliner. My eyes look naked, not as open and less friendly when I don't have any eyeliner on.

6. LUST: Which item is at the top of your beauty wish list?
Hmmm... nothing really strikes out to me at the moment. But I guess it would be the Clarisonic mia as well (same answer as Tshering!). The price tag is simply out of reach for my budget so I'm either going to wait for new, cheaper alternatives or wait until I go overseas and get someone to buy it for me!

7. ENVY: What make up product / look looks great on others but not on yourself?
Filled eyebrows! I think I look really weird with eyebrows since I am so used to my very light and sparse brows. Oh and any hues of pink eyeshadows... My eyes always end up looking bruised and diseased.

Thank you once again Tshering for tagging me! Also, thank you for reading.

Now I tag anyone who feels like doing it! I would love to read your answers :)

MUA - Trio Eyeshadows: Theatrics & Legendary Swatches

Every time I see or here the word 'legendary' I immediately think of Barney Stinson. If you don't know who that is, it's Neil Patrick Harris' character in How I Met Your Mother. It's an awesome show, who else here watches it?

Before I continue with my post, I would love to say HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! to the beautiful mothers out there. I hope you've been spoiled by your children with lovely presents. Also, I want to share with everyone that I am heading to Los Angeles and Toronto during July with my family for a holiday! It will be my first time there but I would love to know any recommendations of great places to dine, go sight seeing, and of course shopping!

Continuing on from my previous post, we have more eyeshadow swatches from my MUA haul! Theatrics really caught my eyes since the colours looked so beautiful, especially the purple shade. If you are a big fan of shimmery, glittery, sparkly eyeshadows then you'll definitely love today's swatches!

 Theatrics | Legendary
Both eyeshadows are a part of MUA's new improved formula 'merged baked eye shadows'. The colours are very versatile to use throughout day and night though I don't know how long they last since I haven't tried them. The plastic packaging is lightweight and compact to bring around with you anywhere.

Ingredients: Mica, Talc, Nylon 12, Paraffinum liquidum, Dimethicone, Magnesium Aluminium Silicate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Titanium Dioxide. May contain: Red Iron Oxide, Black Iron Oxide, Red No. 7 Lake, Yellow Iron Oxide.

MUA - Artiste Collection Palette

These swatches have been long overdue! I have been meaning to swatch these palettes and share them with you but I can never seem to find the time to do so with uni in the way along with my major bad habits of procrastination. With that aside, today I will be swatching the other eyeshadow palettes that I bought from my MUA haul.

First off will be The Artist Collection Palette.

April Empties

Can you believe we are already one week into May? Where has our time gone...

Throughout April I aimed to use a number of sample sachets that I've accumulated over time and I am somewhat proud that I have used up a number of them. Sadly I haven't gotten around to finishing many full sized products which is my main aim. Nevertheless I am proud and hope I use up more products in the coming months :)

Tony Moly - Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream SPF 30 PA++

Quite a number of you lovely readers have been waiting for this post and I am so sorry I haven't had time to review this product until now. I've been meaning to review this much earlier but I never got around to taking photos and such.

So you might be wondering what is a CC cream? CC stands for Colour Control, Colour Correcting or Colour Changing and it's the next newest and biggest thing lately after the introduction of bb creams. As cc cream is still sort of a new concept, many brands will have their own variations of cc cream. You can read a more in depth post by the Muse - she is like an expert on bb and cc creams.

For the past couple of weeks I have been using Tony Moly's Pure Aura CC Cream almost daily without any problems. This is the first cc cream I've tried so I am no expert as to what to expect from a cc cream or anything to compare to besides bb creams. I purchased this for $14.30 from Koreadepart but I've seen Morning Glory selling the exact same product for over double the price!!!

NOTD + Priceline Haul

One week ago Priceline was having a 40% off sale on all cosmetics, which is pretty big, so everyone hopped on the bandwagon including me. The sale was over two days so you needed to be quick before stock was sold out. However since I had uni on both days my only option was to purchase online on their website and let me tell you - it was not a pleasant experience. My whole afternoon and night consisted of trying to navigate their website, only to be given an error message or lag out each time then I would be frustrated and rage to my boyfriend. It was a never ending cycle until I was finally able to place my order at 2.30AM. Yep, you've read correctly... 2.30AM!

Luckily it was all worth it in the end!

Here are the products I ended up purchasing if you haven't seen my Instagram:

Essence polishes in:
     112 Time For Romance
     113 Do You Speak Love
     126 Date in the Moonlight
139 Walk on the Wild Side
And, Australis in Speck-tacular
